Dialogue meetings on harmful practices takes place in the Netherlands.
Dialogue meetings on harmful practices like forced marriage, female circumcision, and child abandonment have been held by number of community organisations in different places in The Netherlands, like Amsterdam, Zwolle, Ermelo, Eindhoven and Sittard.
The meetings, which are part of the project of “Verandering van binnenuit” means (Change from within), are in their first phase and were participated by members of the minor migrant communities in The Netherlands.
It is aimed at ending these practices, as attendees discussed the legal aspects and the consequences if a girl is being forced to marry or a child is being abandoned in the country of origin.
The issue of social impact from the harmful practices has also been raised in the workshops as migrant community members showed their willingness to maintain the awareness among the society.
The Dutch government has already posed an active policy to prevent domestic and honor-related violence, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation and that is result of the ratification of a number of international treaties, such as the UN Women’s Convention.
